KNOW YOUR FIT (F): Your Creator wants you to discover purpose, Fit, and Fulfillment, in your life.

©HAVE YOU HEARD THIS STORY?

A talented young man wanted to do great things for God. He could see himself preaching the Good News to large churches, and perhaps even having a world-wide television ministry. He could see himself writing books that would help many grow in their faith. After seminary, he got his doctorate. He started in a small church and quickly moved to larger churches. God gave him a wonderful wife and children. The problem was, he was never fully satisfied, even when he seemed to be enjoying his work. He was restless. One day he received a call to a struggling, but smaller city parish. God seemed to lead, so he went. It was not his plan, but maybe he could build it bigger. After several years, and now with a healthy church, he found himself fulfilled. He even turned down several larger church offers. God had shown him that if you are serving where he wants you to be, you can find a fulfilling fit in vocation and calling.

HAVE YOU HEARD THIS STORY?

A young girl played with her dolls. She planned to start picking up her room when she started school. In grade school, she ignored her studies thinking, “When I get to middle school, I will study more.” When in high school, she was bored – nothing interested her, so she thought, “When I get to college, I will apply myself.” After a young man she was dating broke up, she asked why? He replied, “You are selfish. I’m not sure you are serious about anything in life.” Hurt and offended, she happened to spot the graduation Bible her mom had given her, and began reading it. For weeks she kept reading and became intrigued with the life stories, adventures, struggles, and promises within its pages. One day God’s spirit spoke to her about how much the Father loved her. He had a purpose for her life. She was energized to find it. Her world changed. Life was now about others as well. She discovered new motivations to study, serve others, and begin a daily relationship with her Creator. While always tempted to “put things off’, her life was changed forever. Jesus’ love, not self, was now motivating her life.

HAVE YOU HEARD THIS STORY?

He was capable, intelligent, highly educated, and skillfully employed in a trade. God was pleased. Being both articulate and popular, he became an activist, spreading fear and violence while pursuing his misguided claims of culture. God was not pleased. Yet, he was God’s special creation with infinite worth. His life was violently interrupted through injury and circumstance. It was then he encountered the truth of Jesus, and chose to believe. God made him a new creature. Mocked by the establishment and threatened by friends, he fearlessly shared his new-found truths. He kept his trade and traveled his world to help others find meaning in Jesus. Unable to silence him, he was falsely accused and imprisoned. God helped him stay strong and true to His message of love. He was wrongly convicted and then executed. God took 13 of his letters, written to encourage his friends in their faith, and put them into His inspired Word. His vocation and calling, while not what he had envisioned or planned, were blessed by God. So was the life of the apostle Paul.

HAVE YOU HEARD THIS STORY?

A young man was drafted to serve in World War II. He kissed his new bride good bye and was shipped off to basic training. He had been taught, as a young believer, that he was responsible for his choices, and wanted to be his best he could be. Each weekend, while other soldiers went to the city to blow off their energies, he roamed the training halls and took various placement tests. Upon graduating, when the others in his class were shipped off to the war, his name was called to report, instead, to the commander. One of his tests had qualified him for further training and he was sent to school again. After the war, he found out that his first training class had been chosen for a major invasion, and none had survived. When asked, he faithfully shared with others that “If you are prepared, you never know when God will use you. Developing my competencies saved my life.”

What does Matthew 22:39 suggest about the importance of having a healthy sense of self-Worth as a pre-requisite to your ability to love and serve others unconditionally?   “And the second [commandment] is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”

HAVE YOU HEARD THIS STORY?

A loving father had two sons. He loved them both equally. The eldest dug in and learned the family trade. The younger rebelled and convinced his dad to let him strike out on his own. The loving father gave him his inheritance and wished him well. However, the son made poor choices. He wasted his resources and became homeless and hungry. Reluctantly, he asked his dad if he could come home and work for food. Happy to see his prodigal son come home, he rejoiced, restoring his place in the business. The older brother was angry. He had made good choices trying to earn his father’s love. His dad explained that his love had “always” been there for him too. Because he repented and also “came home” to a new relationship with his father, he was a prodigal, too. Both sons had learned about the value of unconditional love. It was always there, but the brothers had taken two separate paths to discover and accept it. The important thing is that they both came home.
