KNOW YOUR VOCATION (V):  Your Vocation and/or calling let you focus on your life’s purpose.

What does Ephesians 4:1 suggest about the importance of focusing upon both discovering and developing your calling - and your Vocation? “I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called… (BRG Bible)”

He was capable, intelligent, highly educated, and skillfully employed in a trade. God was pleased. Being both articulate and popular, he became an activist, spreading fear and violence while pursuing his misguided claims of culture. God was not pleased. Yet, he was God’s special creation with infinite worth. His life was violently interrupted through injury and circumstance. It was then he encountered the truth of Jesus, and chose to believe. God made him a new creature. Mocked by the establishment and threatened by friends, he fearlessly shared his new-found truths. He kept his trade and traveled his world to help others find meaning in Jesus. Unable to silence him, he was falsely accused and imprisoned. God helped him stay strong and true to His message of love. He was wrongly convicted and then executed. God took 13 of his letters, written to encourage his friends in their faith, and put them into His inspired Word. His vocation and calling, while not what he had envisioned or planned, were blessed by God. So was the life of the apostle Paul.

Older & Wiser -DISCOVERING TRUTH ABOUT YOUR VOCATION (C): Match TRUTHS with the Source of TRUTHS about how Vocation (and/or calling) can result in “rewards” for your life, both temporally and eternally.

  1. Matthew 9:13 “But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, [a]to repentance.”
  2. 1 Peter 5:10 “But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, [c]perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.”
  3. 1 Peter 1:15 “but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,”
  4. Hebrews 5:1-5 “For every high priest taken from among men is appointed for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins. He can have compassion on those who are ignorant and going astray, since he himself is also subject to weakness. Because of this he is required as for the people, so also for himself, to offer sacrifices for sins. And no man takes this honor to himself, but he who is called by God, just as Aaron was. So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him:”
  5. Mark 6:7 “And He called the twelve to Himself, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits.”
  6. Hebrews 11:2 “For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.”
  7. 1 John 3:1 “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know[LG1] Him.”
  8. Mark 10:42-45 “But Jesus called them to Himself and said to them, ‘You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.’”
