FOCUS DAY 9:

One of a kind

HEAVENLY CONVERSATION 9: “Significant from God the Father."

KEY: F (God the Father Speaking);J (God the Son, Jesus Speaking); S (God the Holy Spirit Speaking) [Read the verse(s) and “Heavenly Conversation” as a family. Suggestion: Choose a different family member to read each part of God’s conversation.]

F “Christmas is about your significance!

J “Many spend their entire lives trying to prove their value, importance, and significance to themselves and others.”

S “Some choose to do this with power, feeling that control over others and things will bring satisfaction. They feel that if they can get everything in order their way, it will somehow bring them significance, purpose, and meaning. Most eventually discover that titles, positions, and full authority to define their situations are never fully in their reach. Something is always beyond their control.”

J “Others seek to find significance through passion, searching their entire lives for some significant feeling or high point that will fill the voids and desires of their lives perfectly. They try possessions, pleasure, medications, and social links in their search, but it’s never enough.”

F “Everyone deals with pride as a temptation to find significance. They compare themselves to others, and either covet what others have, or feel above them, thinking it will prove their value and worth. It never works, however, because TRUE significance comes from me, the Chief Rule-Maker. Their significance is just in being. I created them with value from the womb.”

J “No one is better than another in our eyes. We loved the shepherds just as much as the Magi who brought me gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.”

S “At Christmas you brought good news to our creation that each and every one was special just by being born.”

J “That’s right. So special, in fact, that I gave my life for each one so they could be our friend and live a holy life.”

F “So we agree. Each child is special and significant by the very fact we made them ‘one-of-a-kind’.”

J S “Agreed!”

F “So their energies, as they choose their life stories, should focus on discovering our love in their designs and accepting their Christmas gifts of forgiveness, freedom, and fulfillment, not in seeking other’s approval. Right?”

J S “Right!”

F “Christmas is full of reminders of how special they are.”

J “Many receive gifts showing they are special to others.”

S “And some give gifts to show how special others are.”

F “Before we share the nine love-links to us that we gave them from our images, let’s share how we have provided for their security in life, and how we can help them live in righteousness, above sin. Matthew reminded them that ‘If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!’.”

J “I would like to take the lead on our gift of security.”

S “And I would like to share the gift of holiness. Remember that I am called your “Holy” Spirit!”

F “Absolutely!”

Matthew 7:11; John 3:16   “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” Matthew 7:11

MY CHOICE DAY 9:

I will accept myself as “Significant to my Heavenly Father”.

DAY 9 ACTIVITY:

OPTIONAL: FINDING SIGNIFICANCE FAMILY DISCUSSION

What really makes something significant? We can also use the word important. If you are thirsty, water becomes significant, but more important if you are dehydrated.  A toy or possession gains significance when you want and can’t find it, and seems more important if someone else admires it or takes it from you. To God, however, significance is not dependent on what you or others think or say. You are his “unique”, “one-of-a-kind”, and “special” creation. If you don’t love him, NO ONE CAN EVER GIVE HIM YOUR LOVE. It is lost. SUGGESTED DISCUSSIONS: Be creative with your sharing. 1) Why is your love special, and unique, over any other person’s love? 2) How can you encourage each other to see and understand their “one-of-a-kind” worth and value? 3) How could comparing to others keep us from understanding our value to our Creator?
