FOCUS DAY 10:

Secure in Jesus

HEAVENLY CONVERSATION 10: “Security through Jesus, the Son of God."

KEY: F (God the Father Speaking);J (God the Son, Jesus Speaking); S (God the Holy Spirit Speaking) [Read the verse(s) and “Heavenly Conversation” as a family. Suggestion: Choose a different family member to read each part of God’s conversation.]

FI am so glad, Jesus, you want to share more about being secure. I know you will share more when we talk about trusting you for meeting their needs.”

JI will. Christmas, back when I was born, was a time full of fears, much like today and every era since our creation. My birth allowed us to live and walk with people to show them a new way to live and to live above their fears.”

S “Mary had many fears. She was pregnant without having known Joseph, and they were not yet married. Would he leave her? Who would believe her? How could she explain her child to others? Who could she talk with?”

JWe sent angels to explain and comfort her. Luke quotes them in 1:30, ‘And the angel said unto her, “Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.”’ We also sent angels to help the shepherds. Luke also quotes them in 2:10, ‘And the angel said unto them, “Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.”’”

F “We also sent her Elizabeth, who became the mother of John the Baptist, and believed her miracle of divine birth.”

JShe trusted us with her fears and felt peace and secure.”

S “The wise men had fears of Herod. Herod had fears of losing his power as ruler. Fears of physical, mental, social, and spiritual troubles are all a part of life and increased by sin. Everyone has fears. I see them in every heart daily.”

F “Jesus, share what your coming to earth to become a man at Christmas did to help believers live above fear.”

JThere is a good and bad fear, as Luke wrote in 12:5, ‘But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.’ To fear godly authority is important, but my gift of security goes far beyond that.”

F “Share with them the words of Isaiah and Peter.”

J “Even before Christmas, we wanted our creation to know our love and not live in anxiety about their lives. Isaiah expressed this in 41:10, ‘… fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God;’. After my time with Peter, he shared my TRUTH in his first letter, ‘Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.’ [5:7]”

S “Even King David, knew the security of our love, writing, ‘Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you…’. [Psalm 55:22]”

J “Paul wrote to the Romans, ‘Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.’ [8:39]”

F “Thank you Jesus and Spirit. Let me summarize. What we are reminding everyone is that Christmas is proof that if anyone wants to know us, and gain all the benefits and gifts of that relationship, our love is secure! We will be available, patient, and faithful to help them.”

J “Yes. That adds to the Joy and Hope of Christmas, too!”

Luke 1:30, 2:10, 12:25, Chapter 6; Isaiah 41:10; Psalm 55:22; Romans 8:38-9; Peter 5:7 “And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.”; “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”; “Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Luke 1:30; 1 Peter 5:7; Romans 8:39

MY CHOICE DAY 10:

I believe Jesus’ arms are always open.

DAY 10 ACTIVITY:

OPTIONAL: FINDING BALANCE AND PRIORITIES FAMILY DISCUSSIONS

Any good thing “out of balance” can be harmful. To much of food, water, sleep, work, conversation, etc. can be unhealthy – yet we still may need them. The same is true with fear. Christmas is about relationships – us with our Creator. He came a long way to give us this Good News. When relationships are right, we can endure anything. Luke 6 shared some of Jesus’ teachings. Consider reading it as a family. SUGGESTED DISCUSSIONS: 1) What ways were anxieties expressed in verses 1-19? 2) What instructions did Jesus give in verses 20-48 to remedy this anxiety? 3) How did Jesus promise his secure relationship to us if we would obey verse 49? Be creative in your discussions and apply them to your family relationships.
