FOCUS DAY 11:
Made to be Holy
HEAVENLY CONVERSATION 11: “Christmas Consecrationby the God the Spirit."
KEY: F (God the Father Speaking);J (God the Son, Jesus Speaking); S (God the Holy Spirit Speaking) [Read the verse(s) and “Heavenly Conversation” as a family. Suggestion: Choose a different family member to read each part of God’s conversation.]
F “Christmas is about holiness! I am a Holy God, and I need my people to be holy so they can know me as I created them. Christmas is a Holy time, and is a good time to share about our holiness with everyone.”
S “To be holy is to be without sin. Since Adam, everyone has felt the weight of sin in their lives. Ugh! Even those who tried hard, failed to keep all our commandments, or laws. Paul wrote, ‘For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;’ Jesus, you were the only sinless person. No other person is without some sin in their lives.”
F “For years we made it possible to know and worship us if sacrifices were made to cover people’s sins. Seeking forgiveness was a difficult process, involving sacrifice.”
S “Christmas was our new beginning to live a righteous life. I came to bring grace to cover sins. I like the acrostic that grace is ‘God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense’. It is our gift.”
J “Indeed, I became the perfect sacrifice to provide the gifts of forgiveness, freedom, and fulfillment.”
S “Living a holy life, or one where sin is not in control, is very important for two reasons. First, it frees believers to experience love, joy, peace, a clear conscience, and ultimate fulfillment every day. Second, and just as important, it makes it possible to be part of our family.”
J “The writers of Hebrews help believers know how important holy living is; they wrote, ‘Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord : Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.’ [12:14-15] You can see why holy choices, or living without sin, is so important.”
S “Believers can’t do it alone. I am the Spirit of TRUTH, and my love gift is to guide people into all TRUTH to discover the grace needed for holy living. Both the apostle John and Peter explained my passion for holy living when they wrote, ‘But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth.’ [John 16:13] ‘But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; because it is written, “be ye holy; for I am holy”.’ [1 Peter 1:15-16]”
J “That makes our Gifts of Christmas even more critical for a happy, healthy life. They allow our creation to enjoy friendship with us both now, and forever in heaven.”
S “Purity may sound strict to some, but most understand that when they are in the presence of royalty or greatness they need to clean up and be on their best behavior. Christmas is an excellent time to repent of sin, surrender their life to us, and be consecrated to live holy lives.”
F “Living above sin is a great way to understand and develop the nine love-links to our images.”
1 Peter 1:15-16,John 16:13; Hebrews 12:14-15 “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:15-16
MY CHOICE DAY 11:
I consecrate my life to doing things God’s way.
DAY 11 ACTIVITY:
OPTIONAL: TAKE THE CONSECRATION CHALLENGE
Any relationship built on love requires commitment and sacrifice. Jesus exampled putting our need for forgiveness over his need to avoid death and crucifixion. Consecration is a commitment to holy living, or obedience to God’s TRUTHS for our lives. Here are some ideas you may want to do to increase your consecration to your Creator. Do one or all. Do them as a family or individually. Add your own ideas. CONSECRATION SUGGESTIONS: 1) Fast: Skip a meal and spend that time in the Word to better understand God’s guidance. 2) Share: Give your allowance or spending money to a church ministry or some need you have observed. 3) Serve: Volunteer your time to do extra chores, help a family member or neighbor, or write someone who needs encouragement. Tell them, “God loves them.” 4) Pray - Discuss - Act: Pray personally or as a family what acts of consecration you could do this Christmas that would please your Creator. Do at least one. Be creative and have fun. Consecration should be a part of our Christmas celebrations. Remember that consecration takes discipline.
