FOCUS DAY 17:
Being Your Best
HEAVENLY CONVERSATION 3: “Feeling & Being Good."
KEY: F (God the Father Speaking);J (God the Son, Jesus Speaking); S (God the Holy Spirit Speaking) [Read the verse(s) and “Heavenly Conversation” as a family. Suggestion: Choose a different family member to read each part of God’s conversation.]
F “Christmas is about competence. Most people don’t know that one of our images in them gives them almost boundless potential - the love-image of competence.”
J “Competence is my God-the-Son image; it is part of everyone’s developmental dimension(psyche – soul).”
S “We give them physical and mental skills as well as spiritual gifts for resources to develop competence.”
F “Jesus, your parable about multiplying talents, whether 1, 5, or 10, shows how important it is to us that people do not waste what we give them.’ [Luke 19:11-27]”
J “Because they are so much like us, prior to their coming to live with us in Heaven, we have had to give them some limitations. Paul told the Corinthians, ‘For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.’ [1 Corinthians 13:12]”
S “When people get together, we have given them even more power to gain competence. Remember after the Tower of Babel we had to limit them through language.”
F “I have limited their knowledge of the future and the timing of things we have planned. [Ecclesiastes 8:7; Mark 13:32] In these things we have required faith and trust.”
J “Because we made man so capable, people try to work their way into our favor and family. Paul explained this tendency when he wrote, ‘…For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life.…’ I am still the only way to a truly full life.”
S “Right. We want their competencies to be guided by love, and to honor us, not to replace us.”
F “It doesn’t matter how many potentials they have – one or one hundred - it only matters that they discover, develop, and use what we give them in a positive way.”
J “When, or if, competencies fall short, we use those weaknesses to show our power, presence, and love.”
S “We designed people so they are usually best at doing what they love to do. I love happy people!”
F “Their sense of well-being is greatest when they use their competencies to the fullest. ”
J “So some excel at baking cookies and other at wrapping?”
S “Correct! It is important they don’t compare their competencies, though, but work together and appreciate each one’s efforts. Each life story will be unique.”
F “Christmas is a time to enjoy doing the best they can.”
Ephesians 2:8-10; Ecclesiastes 8:7; Mark 13:32; Genesis 11:1–9; 1 Corinthians 13:12; Luke 19:11-27; “…For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life.…” Ephesians 2:8-10
