FOCUS DAY 23:

The Season of Freedom

HEAVENLY CONVERSATION 23: “Power of the cross."

KEY:F (God the Father Speaking)J (God the Son, Jesus Speaking); S (God the Holy Spirit Speaking) [Read the verse(s) and “Heavenly Conversation” as a family. Suggestion: Choose a different family member to read each part of God’s conversation.]

F “Christmas is about freedom! Whereas repenting and accepting forgiveness may the most difficult Christmas gift for unbelievers to choose, accepting your gift of freedom, Jesus, might be the most difficult for believers to choose.”

J “I believe it difficult because freedom involves complete surrender to me of their choices and their will.”

S “That means surrender touches their relationship to themselves, others, and more importantly to us. It affects love. Accepting freedom from sin is a serious decision.”

J “I remember well my teaching on this. I taught, ‘Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels. [Mark 8:34-38]”

S “I think of the rich man who followed all our rules and wanted to be part of our family. When you asked him to sell all he had and give it to the poor so he could follow us, he went away in sorrow. [Mark 10:21-23]”

F “He had already surrendered much, but not everything.”

J“He chose not to risk accepting my gift of freedom.”

S “Have you noticed that the more beautiful, talented, and blessed a person is, the more difficult it seems it is for them to surrender their will to our love and direction?”

F “It is tough for anyone to surrender their will. Whether an authority problem, an addiction to making their own choices, or a love of sin, it is always hard. It is not just riches, but can be power, control, passions, or anything that they are unwilling to give up. Many are good things, too; they choose to take a chance on themselves over us.”

S “We want them to discover the joys of walking with us every day, but it has to be their choice to completely surrender to our TRUTHS!”

J “My gift has such wonderful blessings when it is wholly embraced. I have said, ‘If you let me, Jesus, make you free, you will be free indeed! [John 8:36].”

S “When people fail, or only make a partial commitment, they are miserable. It can take effort, and surrender is a life-long process. All they must do is to commit to what they know at the time. You know, act immediately when they see something that separates them from us.”

FWe understand the struggle. Our offer is always open.”

S “I am so glad Zacharias, Mary, and the others in our Christmas story never quit! They surrendered to us!”

J “Christmas is a great time to not resign and experience freedom! The gain of surrender always gives back more!”

F “Christmas is the ‘Season of Freedom’!
